Sometimes it is good to keep moving... I think it is important to realize when something starts to take over, and at this point in time- the blog has. That said I am saying good bye. And moving on from the blog world. Back to pen and paper and face to face communication....

I love what blogging has done for me, dont get me wrong.
I have begun to write again, to take more photos than I have ever imagined, found the patience to sew and to knit.
The people that I have found out here (you all know who you are) are top notch. You all make me laugh and cry. I feel like I know you even though I have never heard your voice or given you a hug.
....this is the part that I love and that bothers me as well. You know how they say that we start to recognize tv sitcom characters as part of our reality? that freaks me out- it is all so virtual and strange and a little bit of how I feel about all of you (not that you guys freak me out, it is the idea that I am tied to you all in such a virtual way).
The NEED I have to check in with your blogs is stronger than the need I seem to have to check in with those people that live in the same town as me, those people that are my immediate support system. I am more apt to sit infront of the screen on a Friday night then call a girlfriend up to go catch a beer and a flick.... this is why I must say goodbye..... I think that I need to focus on what is happening off the screen.

Thank you all for your comments, your laughter and for sharing a bit of your world with me for the past few years...

I am going to continue to post on Flickr (however, this too has become all consuming and I question the amount of time I spend on that site as well...)

I feel like I am spinning right now- a little dizzy from the work week and prep for our trip. A little dizzy from teaching 4 classes in 3 days. A little dizzy just because that is how I am feeling lately.

I am looking forward to the therma-rest pad and the camp stove. Looking forward to the hiking boots and the tank tops. The the colors of the desert and the sand dunes...
to the magical energy that death valley holds.

There were hundreds of pinwheels stuck in the grass outside the Pioneer Center. despite the shiny goodness of it all in person, this shadow shot is one of my favorites from the day.

The new camera came yesterday. A few things missing (wide angle lens, car charger, and extra battery, big tri-pod) according to "Tommy" the things are on their way. I had a sinking feeling that we just handed over a pile of cash and got hosed, but I am going to keep telling that feeling to hush and know that those goodies are on the way.

A big thanks for all the encouragement on my last post. And a HUGE over the top thank you to Pancakemama who has taken a bit of time to go through my Flickr stream and find her favorites. I thank you again and again for sorting through and givin' the support.

We are gearing up for a camp trip in the desert. Death Valley to be exact. It is looking to be warm one. Triple.digit.warm.

The house is getting cleaned, the camp gear organized, the car tuned up, and the cameras cleaned off... except for that new camera that we are waiting patiently to arrive on the door step. We ordered a Canon D30 this weekend and it is supposed to be in our hot little hands by Thursday. I am over the top excited about this new little gem. I have been hunting down photos tagged with Death Valley out on Flickr, look at the beauty that awaits us.

I promise to have some new stuff on my flickr page after this weekend... I went to upload last night and well, the husbandman had the magic cord that coaxes the pictures in the camera to move their way onto the computer screen. Said husbandman didn't get home until 10:30 pm last night and I was long into dream land by that point.

I have been thinking that I want to start making cards with my photos. To sell. Am I crazy? can I get some of you to help me pick out your favorites? Good ones to make into a product. I have some favorites, but I think I am emotionally attached to some and see things differently because, hmm, because I was there. So I would love some help, some constructive criticism. Whatcha think? (head over to my photos and add a note to those you think worth of such a project)

The other reason I will have new stuff on my flickr page after this weekend is that we (Mr. Noodle and I) will be meeting up with Urban Climber for a downtown photo hunt.
I think we need to do a Reno Flickr meet up- or a Photo Treasure hunt downtown this summer, wouldn't that be a hoot?

Lots of yoga in store for this weekend... And on Monday I am meeting up with a friend to swam yoga knowledge. She does Acro Yoga and I am so excited to do some flying.

when you have a good walk and talk and dinner with your longest time friend and lunches at home with one of your newest friends, you know that there is light.

when you get up and go teach yoga at 7:30am to a 70-something year old woman who can still get into triangle pose, you know that there is light.

Things have been a bit weird over at the Noodle House. I can't quite pin point it but I feel that things are changing. There is something brewing inside me that I can't quite figure out right now. It is a mood perhaps, or just the change from winter to spring (and then back again depending on what the weather here in the Biggest Little City wants to do).

There is a bit of melancholy despite the sunshine, the garden playing and the random lunches with some fabulous women lately. I feel like the blog needs a break, but I also feel like writing here is really good for me. so there is a toss up... and that is exactly what the problems are- all these toss ups right now.
I am not quite this, nor quite that.

So where does that leave me? Taking in each day at a time. I might be sparse around here, but don't give up on me dear readers. Check in and say hello if you are in the area.

there seems to be so little time to squeeze it all in, and yet what is time really? It is something we can manipulate just by turing the hands forward on a clcok if you really think about it.
The week after day light savings change happens always throws me. Plus I taught a yoga class at 615am on Thursday and so my internal clock is realy wacko.
Driving to class yesterday I saw the most beautiful cresent moon rising, huge and beautiful. That made it all worth it.

I have all sorts of amazing news this week.
there is a pumpkin seed growing in my best friend's belly, she has "ultrasonic" proof.
there is a diamond on my other bestfriend's finger, she has a tan line from Mexico as proof.

all this makes me want to cry. in a good way.
I am looking forward to a massage tonight, yoga tomorrow and sunday (three hours on sunday) and hopefully a walk with E to hear the proposal story and to get blinded by the new bling on her finger...

My mom keeps telling me how amazed my grandfather would be with all this digital photography technology. And how proud he would be that I am using his old camera in a new way. I spent about half an hour to forty five minutes playing around with the "through the viewfinder" technique when I got home from work on Friday.

I was hamming it up for the little girls waiting their turn in the booth.
This one made them giggle as they watched the screen outside the digi-booth...and it made me think about my best friend and I. The "giggle twins" as our mothers called us.How long we have known each other (since she was born we always say), how I used to tell people at the grocery store that I had a twin sister. Only she was from a different mom and dad (that and we are kinda like Danny DeVito and the Goven-ator from the movie Twins). But she was the closest thing I had.
I remember eating lunch at my house(mac and cheese, of course) "My McDonald's".
I remember driving to Reno, probably for a dentist apt or something, and her mom singing to us- when we passed the huge American flag at Boomtown we would all break out in "this land is your land" I could never really sing, but boy could E hold a note even at 3 or 4.
I vividly remember her telling me how she was going to run away one day while we were supposed to be napping. She packed everything up and headed out the window... at the sly old age of 4.
We have so many memories like that together... The little girls waiting outside the booth are probably a lot like we were-
I watched for a few seconds as they climbed into the box. Hugged each other tightly and smiled a huge broad grin...
That set is going to be a keeper I said to their mom- she laughed and gave me a wink as I walked away with my fresh strip in hand...

Thursday Love

When the snow is falling outside, and the temps fall I love filling the house with flowers... especially tulips. it is like sticking your tongue out at the weather.

I can hardly resist the deep purple of these lovelies...

Lester can't either.

He is back by the way (lester is). Gone for two weeks this time. We thought for sure he was soup de jour for the coyotes. Until, that is we got a call from our sweet, sweet neighbors from the old house. They are so cute, and I made sure to put a bottle of wine on their door stoop to say thank you. They now know to just bring him home to the new house. What a crazy animal, he gets taxi service home. Like a drunk that gets stuck at the slot machine downtown and can't stumble home. He gets hypnotized by the call of the old neighborhood. I want to stick a camera on him so that I can see what it must be like to dodge traffic across one of the busiest streets in town to get to the old hood. I wonder what little old lady puts milk out for him and what kids try and bring him in the house and dress him up in doll clothes.
He has been home about a week now and has been completely cut off from going outside anymore. He has done this treck about 6 times now. We have no idea what to do or how to stop him.
So he has to sit in the window and dream about all the mice he could be catching...

$11 for the vintage children's rocker (second rocker in 2 1/2 weeks. Something about filling the house with things for a child. Thinking it will be a way to remind my body that the chairs need to be filled with little person.

It has been awhile...

First, thanks everyone for such sweet Valentine's Day wishes. We had a nice one and we are gearing up for hubby's birthday next week now that the day of love has come and gone.

I decided to take a week off from blogging because I am trying to simplify- I am also really needing to stop checking and updating blog/flickr all the friggin' time. It is one of the worst habits I have ever gotten into- can you all just stop being so interesting for me? (do you like how I pushed that over to being all of your faults?). I am trying to really evaluate where I spend my time, how I spend my time and with whom I spend my time.

Looking to just cut back a little in all areas so that I feel a little more grounded is all I really need.

We spent the long weekend lounging around the house together. We got our new GI-NORMOUS television (42 inches of hd insanity people- I try not to watch, but there it is...) and a dish, and a receiver, and a ton of speakers that are all over the living room. I sat most of the weekend and enjoyed the spectacle that is cable. We have been living cable free for the past 5 years. We would watch anything that would come through via the rabbit ears and lots of coaxing of the "12 inch wonder" (no not that "wonder" tee hee)...

I made pancakes and ate lots of soup all weekend. (hubby was sick and I was trying to not become that way.)
This photo is my ode to 3191, cuz I get up early too...

I worked on some knitting (skateycakes, that hat I was working on with you has been ripped and re-ripped and finally re-rolled into a neat little ball for another project-)I also finished two pairs of "wide-legged lounge pants". A pair of crazy red and flowers for me (I will try and get a picture this weekend, since I am living in them I am sure it won't be hard to do) The second pair was given (sans pictures) to a dear friend who is about 3 1/2 months "with child" and is quickly finding that she hates to wear elastic pants or the pregnant woman option- these were prefect.

I did make it to the booth last Thursday after yoga class- I used the $ I had found in the parking lot the week previous... It was good fun. there was a family waiting on the other side of the booth, two little girls cracking up at the faces I was making while sitting solo. I wish I could have got them to jump in there with me.

I look forward to another weekend home- this time friends from Portland coming down to see us.Wish me luck in not sending our guest in to an allergy attack due to a rouge gluten ingredient (ack!)...

Happy Valentine's Day

This weekend has been soggy, sloshy, wet and grey.
I couldn't be happier about it.
It has been raining since Friday.
Everything is damp, the pond in the back yard has grown and the ice in it has become a mini glacier.

I saw a double rainbow yesterday.
The dog got to play with a 1 year old and cracked me up the entire time, she also got to hang out with her favorite pit-bull/beagle and get muddy. (which means she got a bath too)
I got to visit with my mom and she made pesto (oh, the pesto).
I found a fabulous wee rocking chair at the thrift store along with some great
pillow cases,
knitting needles and
zippers.
Several things on my list have been checked off.
I pulled the "Creativity" card today from my stack of Angel Cards.
I am eating french toast and my Mukkah made the best froth ever today.
I am in my favorite ORANGE (Cal-Trans style) sweatshirt.
The sun keeps playing peak-a-boo with the earth.
Everything is soggy, sloshy, wet and grey (oh and maybe a bit greener too).

I don't have a booth picture to share. I did find $6 in the parking lot yesterday (all ones) on my way in to teach yoga though. I think that is a sign that I need to get my booty to the boothy this weekend. Maybe I can drag the Mama in with me? what say you lady? (I know you read this).

I didn't have anyone show up for class last night(again). But I did take a bit of time to do my own practice while I was there. It felt wonderful. As I was in a posture that I have a love/hate relationship with I felt something shift. I felt myself let go. I went deeper into it than I have ever let myself- actually folding forward over my legs instead of just holding on and sweating out the sensation. When I did this the tears came. They were unaccompanied by sobs, just tears. As my mind shifted into being okay to be in the posture, I too became okay with something that I have been holding on to- I have no idea what that something was, but it was there and I felt not only my body shift but my emotions and my mind- THIS IS WHY I PRACTICE I heard myself say to myself.
The tears were refreshing and wonderful. I totally just let myself be in it.

* re-arrange the bedroom, feng-shui it, if you will
* spend some good time in the craft room
* make a mix cd
* practice yoga (at home or at a studio)
* get to the booth
* sweep/mop/vacuum
* walk the dog
* get to the post office, or at least get things prepped to go to the PO on Monday
* take a nap in the sun
* go see a movie, alone (eat popcorn)
* go to the craft store for some supplies
* hang up the photos I got from JesC
* not get hung up with the fact that this list is probably too long to actually complete in 48 hours...

Thursday Love

here we are, back to Thursday again. This week has been a bit of a roller coaster for me. I found myself at home sleeping most of the day on Monday- A bit of a mental holiday if you will. I needed some down and out time. A bit of time to sleep and snuggle with the dog. A bit of time to go sit on the couch with my mom and have some hot tea and talk and get my requisite hugs for the week.
On Tuesday I felt refreshed and ready to take on the world again. This weekend is promising to be filled with time in the craft room and some chores- which is okay because doing chores sometimes helps me re-group. I am also hoping for a bit of time in the yoga studio, as a student instead of a teacher. I have one more week of my Tues/Wed. classes and then a break. Which I think is much needed.

So what do I love this week? Hmmm, how bout some old pictures? but of something that makes me smile and dream?

I love the way the sky in Reno looks when the clouds are just right around the mountains and the sun plays with the the color spectrum. I love the way the desert smells after a good rain. All that sage and ozone.

These pictures weren't taken in Reno, but in a small little town near Tonopah (click the word for more), NV -which is about halfway between Reno and Las Vegas.
At one point Belmont was the county seat for Nye County- there is still the jail house and a few really amazing buildings in the town along with the remnants of the mining days. It was a booming place at one point due to the mining industry. Today there are about 5 year round residents.

There is a bed and breakfast, a bar called Dirty Dick's, a fantastic jewelry shop called Sticks and Stones, and a few characters that will make you smile and laugh.

I head out to Belmont in the summer time with my mom for a week long class in painting(water color).

I love it. Being so far away from "everything" reminds me how small I am in the universe.

How many stars there are in the night sky, and just how good it feels to slow down because there is nothing to do but paint and take pictures and "see". (oh and maybe a little eating and drinking of good food too!)
These photos were taken with my much neglected film SLR. they are a bit grainy because of the transfer from film to digital format. It was also raining in a few of these shots, not to mention the fact that the light in the desert is intense- so all of that added to a really interesting color and feel.

There is something fun happening over here.

Guess who I got to meet this weekend? Pancakemama herself. She was wonderful to chat with while knitting- the two and half hours that passed seemed like minutes. I should have chosen the tea instead of the Thai cafe though- I think I talked way more than I listened (sorry)... Thanks Ani, it was so wonderful to meet up with you.

I started a new sewing project this weekend as well.
I am working on some "Wide-legged lounge pants" from the Amy Butler book.

We got to spend some fabulous time with family Saturday night- To the UNR game we went (What a game). I got to hold the most beautiful baby for so long and then we headed to Blue Moon Pizza for more visiting. It feels so good to spend time with my SIL and their men.

Found out some news from one of my dearest friends. My lips are zipped however. despite my heart skipping a beat over it all.

busy week ahead...

Quite Through Tunnel

I am currently in the process of developing a new thought process. Trying at each moment to be positive. To catch myself when my thoughts and my words come out in a negative manner, either about myself or about someone else. I have come to realize I have no real control over things- but I can make choices to help shape an out come. There is a subtle difference, and it has taken me a long time to sink into realizing what that difference is.

Part of this is a practice of ahisma- it is my yoga practice that I carry on throughout the day. I might not find myself in down dog or virabadrasan I each day, but I can start to make my record skip on positive words and thoughts.

So I am being quite through the tunnel of transformation- instead of screaming and honking as I walk through the darkness towards the new light. I look and see the white tiles along the walls of the tunnel and see that sometimes clean and shiny walls, and sometimes I see graffiti sprayed messages.

Neither one is better than the other, it is just nice to notice and see the sights as I go...

and because it is FRIDAY and since everyone else seems to be posting there "very firsts", and because I haven't hit the booth in awhile, AND because we are TRYING, yes TRYING to get the baby "mojo" flowing in this body of mine (there I said it)(yes, you read that right-can some of you beautiful, pregnant woman come over and rub my belly so that I can get a little o' the babe luck up in this joint?)

love in an envelope

I think we all dig when there is something in the mail other than bills and adverts right?

Even though I use email probably more than I should to communicate with people in my life, I still LOVE to send out cards and goodies in the mail. (I even have a favorite post office and a favorite post lady who is a character right out of a movie. She is plumb and wears her hair in the wildest up-do ever. She wears buttons and "flair" and always lets you cut back in line if you didn't fill out a form correctly the first time)
I like to imagine what the person looks and feels like when they see an envelope, hand addressed sitting in the box. When I get mail that isn't bills or credit card offers I always try to guess who it is from just by the handwriting on the envelope. I have a few friends that I can guess immediately just by the way my name is scrawled across the middle of the paper.
I love that.

And because I love that, I want to give a little "woot-woot" to a few people. Beacuse they have filled my mail box with joy.

A little thanks out there to a few people who have sent me things in the past month or two. People who I have never seen or met in person. My name written in a handwriting that is unfamiliar, yet totally fits...has been showing up in my mail box. It is exhilerating and wonderful- mostly because these people are sharing part of themselves with me. There have been things like photography and music and art work.Things like "lobster egg" gum balls and fabric and sweet sweet words. And plans are brewing to even meet one of these people to do a west coast version of this...
These things in an envelope took time and creativity and love. And these woman headed out to the post office just because I said I liked something they did. They were nice enough to put my name on an envelope and lick a stamp (or stick a stamp, what ever the case might be.
But those ladies help to make my trips to the mail box so much fun.

Almost as good as a photobooth Friday

We never made it to a photobooth last weekend. There were so many things to pick from to do with ourselves. We could have filled up a week with running around and site seeing and still not hit everything the 5 of us wanted to do.
I snapped this as we were headed up to the shoe department in Nordstrom's (can someone please explain to me the draw of this place? (not the shoe dept, Nordstrom's) I don't get it? Is there any other store that people will proclaim on their license plate holder as a place "they would rather be"? Isn't Nordi's just a glorified Macy's, and isn't Macy's just a glorified Ross?)
Any way, like I was saying- I snapped this shot as we were headed up to the shoe department. Someone noticed that we were reflecting nicely in the elevator doors.... I took the shot and there you have it.

I took a few more as well. (I made them shut the doors and go up and down a few times- aren't I nice?)

I kinda like the ones where no one is paying attention.
I have known these girls forever. I have been roommates with two of them and known one of them pretty much since birth. I feel really lucky that we continue to keep in touch. I am also pretty impressed that we didn't strangle each other while sharing one room, two beds and one bathroom for the weekend...Come on- that is a small space and lots of blowdryers-.

TILT 1-25-06

I must say, when I visit San Fran I often get totally overwhelmed by the humanity and the chaos and all of it. I want to look at everything, take it all in and then I realize that I have taken in too much. Like a sponge that has reached the point of total absorbtion I can't hold any more stimuli. This weekend's trip was no exception. I wound up with a head ache right behind my eye. But I rallied and downed some water and an Alieve and was good to go.

One of the best things I saw this weekend was a few guys in the middle of Union Square holding up signs stating "FREE HUGS" and it brought me back. I didn't get a chance to get my free hug, but just seeing this made me feel like I was a person again... hugs do that to a me- they remind me of my love of personal contact, one on one converstaion and love.
I am a hugger. It is just how I was raised. We hug and often time give big old kisses to each other (this by the way totaly caught my man off gaurd the first time hanging with the fam).

What can I say.
But doesn't giving someone your energy and you taking theirs feel so amazing?

Today's TILT is dedicated to all you people out there that I can't hug because you live somewhere far away- but know that my arms are wrapping 'round ya and I am giving you a squeeze- oh and this ain't no "butt poking out" kinda hug(you know what I mean, the fake kind, the I am not sure if I want to touch you kind), this is a full contact- full energy kinda hug- MMMMM!

Because so many of you responded to this post (Thanks by the way, for all of your responses, encouragement and sharing that you feel quite similar to the way I was feeling the other day.)I thought I would share a link to something that showed up in my in-box today. I love when things like this come to me, as if I had asked for them personally.

Oh, and speaking of things that "came to me"... I found a message in a bottle this weekend.
Yes, I did.
And here is what the message said,

The note was in Grolsh bottle of beer, crumpled and slightly burnt on the edges... the girls kept telling me there was just a wrapper in there, but I saw the little burnt edges and wanted it to be more- to have a message. I love this type of thing. Perfect- you have to open your eyes and take a moment to see things for more then they appear sometimes.

Photos and a review of the weekend spent with the T-town girls on the way. I didn't have a chance to upload pictures last night. Didn't take quite as many as I would have liked, but did get some really fun ones.

We had a great time. It was such a pleasure to spend time with the ladies that I have known since such a young age. There was lots of shopping, eating, exploring and tea. Not as much drinky-drinky as there used to be, but that is a good thing I think.

I have been busy with work and teaching again this week.
I like that I haven't had much time to get on line, it is somehow refreshing. Has anyone else found that the more they look at blogs and the insane amount of creativity going on the more they feel like everyone else must be living in a different dimension? I mean when do these people find the time to create such amazing things, take such awesome photographs, birth such beautiful babies and still have a roof over their heads?

I am okay with it all, it is just sometimes I am truly amazed at what others are doing out there... am I just a bad time manager? hmm... how can you really manage time - Think about that statement for a second, go ahead I will wait....... time just keeps going, no matter what you do.

On Sunday I swung by JoAnne's fabrics for a bit of a fix. I have been wanting to make the pants from this awesome book, but needed a bit more fabric than I currently have at home. I thought about piecing together some of the fabric scraps I had, but decided for the first time around and because I am still learning to sew, I would go the easier route.
The fabric sits in the plastic bag on my craft room floor, untouched but not forgotten.... I will snap a few photos when I can get a bit of sun light. I really liked the colors I found and think these will sew up pretty easily.

I am getting more and more excited about my weekend get away with the girls.

There is talk of photobooths, dim sum, shopping, spa-ing, and bar hopping. I will have camera in tow and crisp dollar bills just in case we find a booth or two.

Andy and I have been cooking like crazy the past few days- I love being in the kitchen with him.

chopping, rinsing, giggling and snacking. He is quite the cook/baker and it is something we are finding that we really enjoy doing together. It is nice when that happens. Such a good way to spend the time we have after work together.

That sums it up kids. not much else going on here at the Noodle House.

The week flew past in a blur.

Work was busy. Consultants, server conversions (when did I become an IT nerd?), deadlines and lots of phone calls from parents and the public. Teaching yoga after work got me home around 7:30 or 8 every night. Andy was equally as busy. He was up late writing staff reports and preparing for next week, which is a big one for him at work.

The new yoga classes went well. Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement!
I am thoroughly enjoying the use of my Christmas presents in class.
I have three enthusiastic 5 year olds and their mothers in my parent/child class. They make me laugh and I am looking forward to using the book, "The Giving Tree" next week to guide our practice. I love all the giggles and the excitement to pretend and make believe. When do we loose this gift? Do we keep it but just stuff it down? I wonder.... (actually been doing a lot of this kind of wondering lately... How can I bring in my imagination, playfulness and "self" back to my world every day? Working with these little humans is so good for me.)

The adult classes were both really great as well. I have groups who are not afraid to ask questions, and that is really great since I don't always know if I am making sense up there in front of the room. I have all levels and even some guys in the both the classes, which is really great. What I love most is that I leave class refreshed and re-inspired, something I hadn't expected after teaching (the inspired part, yes- the refreshed part, no).

We finally took down the tree and other holiday garb yesterday. (yes, I know. But I am not super woman and I don't have the time or the drive to always spend my weekends doing chores.) We also had a great dinner last night with friends and got to hang out with a two year old who loved Andy- I haven't seen him laugh so hard or turn that red in a long time. It was pretty cute.
Today was a sleep in day- I actaully stayed in bed until 9- a small miracle and tribute to how exhausted I am right now. It is lounge city here at the the Noodle House.

It is a short week coming up- what with tomorrow a holiday and Friday I take off from work and leave for a splendid weekend with 5 of my girls from high school. It should be a riot. We are headed to San Fran for choas , shopping and girl time. 4 of us are driving from Reno/ Nevada City and the other two are flying up from LA. I can hardly wait.
Road trips rock especially when they are with girls that you have know for so long and can be incredibly silly with.... lets hope the weather cooperates - the less snow the better.

Full of nerves

Today is an ironic day...
We spent last night watching this basketball game. It was intense and I was over stimulated by the time I got home. I made some tea and managed to shatter it and spill the cup and all the boiling contents on myself. I had eatten crap before the game and my tummy was all a jitter. And to top it off I knew I had things to prepare for today, and had pushed them aside. Why do we do that to ourselves?
So today I am full of nerves because I start teaching once again. The irony is that I am teaching yoga, so nerves and ego should be peeled away. I should feel calm and collected about the whole thing. But I am not. I am nervous. I think it is because I am doing a Parent/Child class. I have taught adults and I am all good with that, but kids? What have I signed myself up for?
I keep telling myself that I will have a blast (which I know I will) but it is going to be SO DIFFERENT then adults. The room will be full of energy and imagination that isn't always present in the room when it is full of adults (sorry adults, we just don't have it like the kiddos do).

Will the class I have construted be entertaining?
Will it keep their attention for the entire hour and a half?
Will they be willing to play and learn?
Yes, they are kids, of course they will.
I am using an old book of mine that is all about space ... What could be bad? Outterspace is fun. Weightlessness and floating? The mystery of it all that is above us and the idea that it is our "Last Frontier".

I am sure that what ever happens I will become more flexible (flexing the mind is almost more important than flexing the body, in my opinion). I will learn so much today starting at 4:30pm. I bet I will learn more about myself and about yoga then the kids/parents will. But isn't that how it goes? The teacher learns more than the students?

So here is to being a teacher, here is to becoming more flexible, here is to LEARNING...

Reflecting

What an amazing past two days... I didn't have my camera, and that was okay (although this photo was taken at Donner Lake and is a perfect example of what we saw while shoeing along the beach). There were moments where I wish I had the camera in my hands, but then again I can't always take in the moment when I am looking at the screen of my camera.

Saturday was Acro Yoga and laughter with the Canary*. Helping my mom with some condo related stuff (anyone out there want to buy a condo on Donner Lake?). Decompressing from the condo related stuff by snow shoeing around the park at the East end of Donner Lake with my mom, my man and the dog. And finally, a stop and impromptu dinner with family in Truckee- Surf, Turf, and Coop was on the menu along with roasted butternut squash, grilled sweet potatoes and grilled eggplant- MMMM!

On Sunday, teaching yoga one on one to one of the most amazing 70 somethings I have ever met. Then hanging out with one of my girls who is preggers- so amazing, always amazing what is going on in a body of a woman who is pregnant... napping on the couch with the kratins since the puppy was out and about with the man, and finally dinner with some more friends and more down to earth conversation ranging from dating to acupuncture to work to working out.... so real, so amazing, so alive today.
Thanks everyone for such an amazing recharge this weekend... Next weekend will not be as luxurious. I must get that tree down and out of the house, vacuum and all that goes with cleaning up the house after the holidays, can't someone do this for me?

Sticking with a theme..

No photobooth today, but I thought I would put this old picture of me up just to show how long I have had this cowgirl hat obsession... I had no idea that I was such a cowgirl at heart.
I think I am about 3 in this picture, it is hard to say since I can't see my forehead... I have a scar from a fractured skull on the left side of my forehead (yep, fractured skull, 6 stitches, ICU, blood clot... in other words LUCKY TO BE ALIVE... and a very good reason why the bicycle helmet law is so very important!). The accident happened when I was about 3 and 1/2 year old....
I do know this was taken in Truckee (see the had says so) But since I have a jacket on I can't quite tell what time of year it is- it has been known to snow in T-town even in July...
This picture kills me... what a ham I am!

It's raining out this morning...
I woke up to the sound of the drops hitting the side of the house and the windows. My orange cat walking back and forth across my sleepy body, trying to wake me up. He has food and I just cleaned the litter box last night, but he insists on waking me up at 6:30 every morning. I hear the dog stir in her box. Freshly groomed paws clang across the door, like a prisoner raking his empty cup across the bars of his cell... she is ready to get up for her morning sniff outside.
I finally roll out of bed, making sure I stretch out and in again before coming to my side and press my way up into the morning air.
I have finally gotten used to walking downstairs in the morning to the kitchen. Stairs are tricky when you are half asleep, and have a puppy weaving in and out of your feet.

A latte is made and the dog is chasing the cats around the house, much to their hidden amusement. Back up the stairs, shower, dress and kiss the man as I walk out the door... I have planned my entire outfit around the fact that today, I actually have a reason to wear my boots (which I was told the other day are known as "break-up boots" in Alaska because in the spring when things start to melt and "break-up" you have to wear these or else you will be soaking wet, I love it).
As I get out of the car at work, I am overwhelmed with the urge to STOMP through the puddles, just because I can. As I step into a puddle, I look up and smell the air full of rain and maybe a hint of sage, and listen... Only for a second, but it seems like an hour. It is one of those moments where I am/feel alive. That little flash where my mind is so clear, it is the same feeling I have when I am "in it" during yoga practice.

The grey sky is suddenly dotted with the v of geese... gossiping as they make their morning commute across town. Two sets of them fly over, I breath in their noise. I imagine that they love this weather and that they are giggling in enjoyment over it all.

Supporting Indie

Natalie was great to listen to last night.

She had some new material (which meant that Uma*, Q and I couldn't sing along with every song like last time) and she was well received by the crowd (much larger than the last time she was in town from LA).
Which meant selling CDs and t-shirts.

The cool part about the venue where she played (Walden's Coffee House) is that they do an open mic night every Friday. Which I knew about but haven't gone to in awhile. The other cool part is that it is a coffee house, so that means all ages, no smoking, and an intimate atmosphere (sometimes really intimate when there is a full band playing).
The mic and the room was scatterd with kids, teens 20-30 somethings and your hip seniors. I love that sort of thing. It is the way music should be shared- with everyone. They also have food and beer/wine, so you can enjoy while you listen.
Having all the other open mic-ers there playing music, gives out this really great sense of support. They all know what it takes to write, play and sing their own music. I loved watching and listening to all the different styles of musician last night.

It's All In The Cards

Sometimes I just stop and think about this deck of cards I have been given called life, love and family. I think about all the queens and kings that surround me, the jokers and the wild deuces. Stopping and looking at it I realize how all those cards don't quite fit in the box nicely any more. They overflow out of the box. Some of the cards are earmarked or bent a little. Some are in pristine new condition, and others are worn smooth, broken in and easy to shuffle and deal. Some of the cards are right there in between. Some have found their pair, others are working on a full house.

And then I look down at the stack of chips on the table before me. I think about how little I started out with. There were times when there wasn't even a stack. There was only a single chip sitting on the table in front of me (and my mom). The chip sat there like a loose tooth holding onto its roots just waiting for the promise of something bigger to take its place. The anticipation and the betting, the poker faces and the holding out just long enough.. out lasting the others around us and building back the stacks slowly and steadily. All that time, holding the heart cards close at hand, because that was really what would win us the jackpot.

Over the past month we have had a party every weekend (every.single.weekend). The house has been cleaned and re-cleaned. Food has been prepared and devoured, wine has been poured and spilled. Laughter has echoed through the walls of our home filing it with memories and love.
I know that my chips are stacked high now. I know that holding out for that straight flush in hearts was all I really needed to do.
It really is all in the cards that you are dealt.
And damn, I got a good hand.

My new "wellies"... a birthday gift from my mom.

I am in love with them and make every excuse I can to wear them.
I have even worn them to work twice the past week.

Flamingos All Around

I don't know about you, but there is something about a flamingo that just makes me smile.
Is it their color?
Or maybe it is there long neck and the graceful way they can stand on one leg, as if in a perpetual Vrksasana.
Maybe it is the thought of warmer climates and palm trees... not quite sure.

All I know is that when I opened a gift for my birthday from my dear friend Uma* I could hardly contain myself.
I mean look at these things?
I love that she used the idea of a "Christmas tree" and flip-flopped it into something so unseasonal and wonderful.
I am totally in love with these little nick-knacks right now.
They are sitting pretty in the dinning room for all to see...

Looking forward to the next few days off. I have one last gift I need to craft for the gift exchange and maybe a few little stocking stuffers for hubby. We haven't yet decided if we are actually doing presents for each other- nothing like waiting until the last minute, right?
We are hosting Christmas night dinner at our house with in-laws and out-laws and in-betweens. I am going to pull together a huge pan of lasagna and Andy is going to make his famous chocolate cheese cake.
Even though having everyone over is exhausting, it is a wonderful exhausting. A kind of warm and fuzzy, "I just had my family in my house to eat" exhausting. I love that we are making memories and adding to the good vibrations in the new house. It is what makes it a home.

Two of my favorite "cowgirls" and I hit the booth about two weekends ago. Took about three strips, so I will gradually be sharing them over the next month or so.

This booth was totally strange. Not only was it digital, but you stood up.. Totally bizarre. But it made it easier to smoosh in, that is once we figured out that we could push back the curtain behind us a bit.

I love these girls and can't tell you how important they are to me... Believe it or not they are really quite funny.... wudda never guessed? (this is what happens when you get an engineer, a planner and a GIS person all in one booth...)

The day after...

The day after your birthday is always strange.
Or at least it is for me. I am left to think about what the new year will bring and what the past year was all about.
And then there is always the feeling of, "What the heck just happened, I am how old?"
Some things are just bigger than you are. Like the earth spinning around and around the sun, like birthdays, or like this preying mantis for instance...

Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes.
It means a lot to me. And deep down I still feel like a little girl.

I am exhausted from the past three days of celebrating. I am ready to just sleep for a day or so, curl up with my man, the dog and the cats and just snuggle.
But that is not in the plans. I teach and work, and then get the house ready for yet another holiday festivity.
Fondue and wine on Friday night with Andy's family from the Bay Area/So. Cal. I am looking forward to the evening, and the sharing of the house and the family and the food (and did I mention wine?).

I am looking up for all that joy and energy, feeling rooted and strong in this life, yet growing.
Always growing up and up and up.
All that love and celebration that is in the air right now? I am trying to take it in, and give it back as well.
I am going to enjoy as the season and this brand new year unfolds infront of me...

11*12*11 has been a wonderful challenge for me. I have been frustrated and inspired. But most of all, I have been forced to slow down and see.
stop and see the world around me, see all that makes me laugh, cry and feel alive.
And that is a beautiful thing.

I hope the photos spoke for themselves for the most part. But I know that several of them probably lent to a ton of questions... so if you are interested and because I have gotten a few request to do so, I am going to give you a few words to go with the images.

CAUTION, I have not writen here in a month and the following portion of this post will make up for that... seriously this could be long, so go to the bathroom and get a cup of tea before you start to read and click and click and read.

ENJOY~

Day 1 Veteran's Day, lazy weekend of knitting and breakfast making. Then meeting up with my best friend and her man for a drink.
Day 2 Learning how to home brew with above mentioned best friend and her man.
Day 3 Even though I often get home late after work /teaching yoga/practicing yoga, I really like to make dinner.
Day 4 Because I work a regular 8-5 job and then pile on teaching yoga, I get pretty busy...It is sometimes a blur.
Day 5 I had been going through pictures from the past few years... This one is a favorite. Taken on the Black Rock Desert. Playing croquet dressed up in crazy costumes...
Day 6 I got up early to go to the dentist on this particular day. Nothing like the feeling of freshly polished teeth to make me happy!
Day 7 Headed up to a pre Thanksgiving party. I was happy to see friends of all ages.
Day 8 Spent the day in my craft room making holiday gifts. Andy's family decided a few years back to stop buying gifts for one another at Christmas and the tradition was made. We have to make something for each person. It is such a great way to share your creativity, get a good laugh, and cut down on the insanity and consumerism of the season.
Day 9 Attended an AcroYoga workshop, and got Andy to join in the fun. This is one of the funnest things to do. If you have a chance try it. It brings your yoga practice in a full loop... The usually contemplative and internal practice is taken outward. It is a wonderful chance to learn to communicate and also reinforce community, commitment and trust...Oh, and there is a lot of really good laughter too! I am lucky enough to have now gotten to go to 2 of these workshops, and my massage therapist is also a teacher here in town, so that means there will be more in the future- wooo hooo!
Day 10 Happened upon this "snowboarding" event taking place in a local shopping center parking lot. It made me laugh and yearn for my snowboarding days again...
Day 11 No real story here... These lovely foods were sitting on my kitchen counter, the light was right and so I snapped the shot.
Day 12 Spent the day in the sewing room. Later on that afternoon Andy got busy in the kitchen making his famous flat bread for Thanksgiving... Oh and the kitty got a little treat, whipping cream.
Day 13 Thanks Giving day... Wonderful and warm. Celebrated Dad in law's birthday as well because all the kids were home. It was such a great day.
Day 14 Some days it is nice to just be inspired by others...
Day 15 In Napa, CA for a bit more birthday celebration and left overs from Turkey day... This time it was my God Father's 60th birthday!
Day 16 The birthday celebration went well into the night and early into the next day... Dancing and more dancing.
Day 17 This photo was taken one year ago from the date posted... It makes me laugh.
Day 18 Photography has always been important to me. It is a link to my family history and to my grandfather who passed away when I was about 10. He had a dark room "down the cellar" and this was his camera. He gave it to my mom and she used it often while I was growing up. I asked if I could have it and so now it is mine (it actually goes back and forth between my mom's house and mine)... The Girl Scout camera is my mom's. She has had it since she was 6 years old, and I asked her if I could borrow it and the old Yashica to attempt to do a bit of this.
Day 19 Getting the holiday garb out... Three new Christmas trees...
Day 20 I have some of the most amazing girlfriends. They are formally known as the ChIPs (Chicks In Planning) we knew each other from work but decided to start hanging out because we are all roughly the same age and are connected through our professions... Over the past 2 and half years become great friends. We are there for laughter, for crying for venting and for love. We were out and about on the town... Theme: cowgirl (had to dress like one, see my vest?) We had Pho and then headed to a few bars to play pool and laugh... (oh, and a few of them stuck it out to locate a photobooth with me, classic set)
Day 21 Peace, Hope, Joy... Need I say more?
Day 22 Dressed up warm and hopped in the beloved suburban for a day of Christmas tree hunting. I was just playing in the drive way before we left and really liked the shadow that cast out before me.
Day 23 Feeling like dog, but trucking through it. In a Nyquil comma... this about sums up the color and the lines I am seeing...
Day 24 Slept all day to keep the cold at bay. I had no chance to get the camera out... Although there were a few moments that I snapped my "mental camera". Made me think of one of my favorite songs my John Mayer, 3x5s
Day 25 I have come home twice now at lunch and seen this beautiful colored shadow that the old vanilla and pepper corn bottles create. I love little bottles, especially glass ones. I have no idea what I will do with these, but I just like the way they look. And so many things are no longer bottled in glass (like mayo and peanut butter for instance)these little bottles make me smile, and their shadows bring me joy.
Day 26 Out with the girls and dressed up to a cowgirl theme... Talked them into boothing it up with me. I love these strips and will have several more to share over the next few weeks.

final days?? Not such a good camera girl.

We had a huge open house party on Sat (30-40 people stopped by) and I didn't have the time or the energy to get out the camera, silly me there were so many people at our place.
I slept most of the day yesterday, just getting my beauty rest- I am getting old, I need more sleep right?
Last night, had dinner with a group of friends. Yummy food, good people, who could ask for more?

Tonight, family is coming over for dinner and celebration.
I am exhausted... but in such a good way. So much love it makes me glow.

Cell phone addition...

I really debated about posting the entire strip or just one frame at a time- but I decided this grouping needs to be shown together. I haven't been able to drag anyone into the booth with me lately, so I decided a prop was needed... ha! Cell phone you can be the bringer of so many emotions- and faces. Perfect!

I stopped off at the mall on my way home from teaching my first yoga class at Studio 1. The class was small, but great. I had people that were all beginners so we did a lot of explaining and adjusting. I love when a class just creates itself instead of me having something scripted.

I have today off! Hurray! I am headed over the hill to Truckee to visit with my godmother and have lunch. I haven't seen her in months and a visit is long over due.

Today is one of my dearest friends birthdays-
Happy Birthday Ms. Taya! I love you lots and lots and hope you have a fabu day. Miss you. Hope the gala event of the weekend is supa fun.

This day also marks the month count down to my birthday... Tomorrow the silence begins. just photos peeps from here on out for the next month. I am interested about how this will turn out...

ever since reading "Secret Life of Bee's" I have had a new item on my, Things to do before I die list... Keep bees.
They are fascinating little creatures, keeping our food supply going- I mean think about the power they have, the control they have over all the fruits and veggies, all the lovely flowers.
There is definitely something sexy about a bee, and the honey they create- sexual, sensual creatures.

I have always loved books- I remember being in my room as a little girl and playing "Librarian". Sorting my books by color. Then taking them all down and sorting them by title, and again pulling them all down and dividing them out by author or theme or even size- looking for the perfect alignment and look on the shelf.

I have always been able to get lost in words in the images my mind creates of the characters and places in a story.

I can totally related to the words that she has posted.
This swap will be a meditation in letting go for me. I too hate giving up a book that I loved to read despite the fact that I rarely, if ever, read a book more than once.

TILT- where the music matters

Today's love goes out to something I don't have a photograph of, nor could I really capture this love in a photograph if I wanted to.
I have huge love for a radio station. Yes, a crush of sorts on a radio station. Maybe it's the DJs that I have a crush on? Maybe it is just the rockin' music. Or maybe it is a bit of each.

The radio station is miles and miles north of my home, in a place that is much more damp and rainy then it is here in the high desert (except for maybe today- but that doesn't count).
In a city that is known for music and bands (Pearl Jam, Nirvana)
The city is Seattle, and the radio station is KEXP.

These guys knock the socks (hand knit socks, by the way) off any of our local radio stations- (although I do enjoy our local NPR , it just isn't the same with its classical and jazz, the variety, er the music, just isn't there.)

The best part is that KEXP streams their music/broadcasts across the internet. Which means that people like me can listen until their hearts sing along, and then listen some more. I suppose it isn't really a radio station if it is over the net, but I like to pretend that I am in Seattle and part of the music community even though I am not... A girl can dream right?

The music ranges from punk, to world, to spinning/dance/electronic, to jazz, and rockabilly and much ,much more.

One of the cool parts about the station is that the DJs actually get to pick out the music they want to play- no one telling them what to put on the air waves.

I must say that they help me get through the work day, they make my weekend rock. They inspire me with the fact that they are doing something they love each and every day. The DJs all love music and get to play and share and explore music as a job. So lucky

They even have a blog and a Flickr set.

I must admit that I have not donated to this station, but I think it is something I will do in the very near future. Mostly because it is so important to support local (okay, not so local for me) independent music and the people who support and promote them.

(Shush, you are all just jealous I got to ride a giant piggy bank and look like a maniac whilst visiting Pike's Place.)

So there is my love for the day- The DJ's are in NYC today rockin out. Live sets and all sorts of wonderful... Enjoy, get addicted, listen.

FIASCO
I was on my way to Target this morning and hit a dog- I didn't killer her, but she was hurt. I am still replaying the whole thing in my mind.
I had just gone through an intersection near one of the parks in town that has a dog run area. I heard a huge thump, and then a yelp. I stopped the car and tried to absorb what had just happened. I heard yelling and couldn't find my hazard flasher button on the dash, so I just pulled out of the road. I saw the owner carrying the dog and I rushed over to see what I could do. I helped him get her into the car and he just kept saying, "it's not your fault, it's not your fault. She ran after another dog."
I feel terrible- so I need to send out good vibes for that poor dog-
I didn't even see her coming. I am so, so sorry....

FAVORITES

I have no booth photo today, and missed TILT yesterday- but I am making up for it with this little list of goodness....

1. It is NEVADA DAY (observed) so that means no work today. Just hanging out around the house getting chores done.
I love this holiday. Are we the only state that celebrates the day the state became a state?

2. Cloe has gotten very comfortable with us. Shas started to come out of her shell and is a little rascal. She makes me laugh.
The best part about a dog is when you are out and about with one, people smile. They might be walking by with a total sour face, but when they spot the ball of fluff on the end of the lead, they smile-
Then they either stop and pet the fluff and laugh or they keep walking by that same goofy smile on their face. I think this is one of my favorite parts. You could make someone's entire day just by taking the dog out for a walk... I love that.

3. This cat- he loves me even though I brought home a second kitten almost 4 years ago, and now this dog is invading his world. But he still snuggles with me at night when I get home from work. He licks my face when I pick him up and follows me (and now Cloe) around the house when I am home. He is my Lester Lewis...

Booties and Brides

no, no, not that kind of booty- these kinds of booties.

These were a quick little knit and I will definitely make them again- seems like a good use of left over yarn since they didn't take much at all.
The pattern is from the pattern a day calendar and I used some knit picks sock yarn that the lovely Becky sent me in a swap earlier this year.

Also did a little knitting this weekend and am ready to head to the washer for a bit-o-felting excitement. First time felting with the new insane-o washer machine (I swear this thing could take flight if it wanted to when it heads into spin cycle) so I am going to keep my fingers crossed.

Had a lovely weekend.
I spent the morning wandering around Apple Hill with the gals while the boys did their ritual pre-ceremony golfing extravaganza.

There were so many wonderful fresh fruits and of course apples (in Bubba style -random movie reference-,) there were apple pies and apple milk shakes, apple cider and caramel apples. There was apple fudge and apples to just eat. Apples sitting and looking pretty and others that were on the move.

Tons and tons of kids and dogs.
There was a wee little petting zoo and pony rides- good thing I had Cloe Dog with me or I might have begged for a pony ride.

I managed to leave with only a bag full of these,
a piece of fudge and one caramel apple.

and the dancing was kick ass (Sorry no pics I was too busy shakin' my groove thang to snap any shots).

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately- thinking about yoga and how I want to have more time to practice. Thinking about how I can integrate postures and breathing into my day and infuse them into my life. I am teaching one class a week right now but in the spring will that number to four. I am hoping I haven't overstepped my limit. That I can find that magical balance between too much and just enough. I am really looking forward to one of the classes in particular- Parent/Child class. I am thinking to find a few children's books that I can integrate postures into the story as we go. So kinda of like a reading circle movement class. I love the idea of bonding with your child through movement and breath- and I love the idea of giving families time together and tools to spend time together. Any of you mommies out there have any books that might be good for this type of thing? I would love suggestions.

I am crazy with work, with life and with love at home- How could I not be in love with this man? Look at him-
(I love seeing all the boys gussied up in their monkey suites and feeling good about themselves)

I am looking forward to having Friday off, it is Nevada Day kids. Remember this post from last year? I will be singing the Nevada state song all day long just because I can sleep in with my man and play with the dog and vacuum the house (no really it makes me happy to get to do that). Here's to a SHORT week!

This one kind freaks me out-
The frame is really out of focus. I look like a zombie- with no eyes. Or kinda like the woman from a Twighlight Zone that I remember watching as a kid- the one where the woman is upstairs watching old b&w cartoons and has no mouth- there was a kid that had something to do with the no mouth part, but my memory fails me...

We are off to wedding-ize this weekend. Half day at work, and lots of wine to look forward to and good friends to laugh with. A is in the wedding, and I am going to help set things up with the bride and the bridal party. My goal is to take as many photos as I can this weekend. I have been feeling really inspired by what I am seeing out on Flickr. I really like the idea from over on port2port. Mav does a list of her favs on Flickr each week... I think I may join in the idea. Hope she doesn't mind~

Cisco Grove is sandwiched between the Yuba River, Old Highway 40 and I-80 as you are heading over Donner Summit.

Before I-80, Highway 40 took you from Truckee, CA to Sacramento or the Bay Area and Cisco Grove was a thriving little spot for travelers to stop to refuel their cars and themselves. There were shops, a resturaunt and a gas station. Today there isn't much on that side of I-80 but the remnants of the old stone buildings and a few cabins.

One of my first jobs I worked as a Natural Resource Planner. Cisco Grove was a place we were trying to preserve not just because of the beauty but also because of the history of the place.

I love stopping here on the way over the hill, especially in the fall when the Cisco, Aspens and other species of trees are changing color.

Busy week this week-
Teaching yoga tonight for the School District's Community Education program and sub for someone on Thursday over at Yoga Loka. Interviewed yesterday with a new yoga studio and looks like I will add at least one more class a week to my teaching schedule. I am looking forward to it. I might add an early morning class later on in Decemeber. So exciting to be teaching- and breathing... ahhh.

I have been at the doc's a ton these past few weeks, so I suppose this photo is appropriate. I was supposed to have to go in for surgery today (gasp, on Friday the 13th) however, my little body did a good job at healing itself and I am free to come to work. I couldn't be more happy to have to go in to work today. Anything to not have to be put under....
FYI- I am well, just a little "Glitch in the Matrix" you might say.

This weekend holds some very exciting things.
We are headed down (or rather up and over the hill) for a visit with this dear friend and her man- I haven't seen her since the Fourth of July!

We are going to pick one of these little ones to be our new housemate

(They are mini schnauzers, cute huh?)

and lastly, we are going to Ikea in search of the perfect bookshelves and maybe some night stands too.

Mostly, what I am excited about is I get to do all this with my man and that makes me smile :)

Olive, booth and tourist

Olive is almost complete. For the most part I am pretty happy with the way she turned out... I do have a few skills I need to improve upon when it comes to sewing seems, but I will get there!

I really like that I re-purposed some of the fabric for Olive. Her skirt was once a "hippie" dress that I never wear anymore so I undid the seams and cut out her skirt. The shoes I have had in my stash for over 2 years- I thought they were a fun contrast to the oranges she is wearing up top. I have to decide if she should have blue eyes or brown... What do you think?

Delayed booth and vote

So glad to be home home home.

Here is a little something that I finished up last week before I took off:

I have made 3 of these, and have gotten nothing but rave reviews. This one will be on it's way to her new owner sometime next week.

Last weekend was beautiful in Phoeniz, AZ and perfect for a wedding. Hubby's sister got married and it couldn't have been a sweeter afternoon. The words and the people were all beautiful. Congrats you two! We love you and hope you are having a ball on your honeymoon.
I failed to take my camera with me to the ceremony- things got a little hectic and we had to rush to get over to the party.
I did get a picture of our new friend how ever...

isn't he/she sweet? ack! The people at the hotel tried to tell me that it wasn't a roach... um okay.
And a nice shot of my man at the rehersal dinner...

On Sunday I was off to Redlands, CA for a weeks worth of training. I was dreading the whole thing, but in the end I walked away feeling pretty good about the knowledge I had prior and all the new knowledge I have now- excellent instructors. Plus, I was in the GIS motherland- where GIS all started- such a dork it hurts. But really the ESRI headquarters were very nice and it was kinda special in a nerdy/geographery way.
I did get some knitting done, but after looking at the ball of yarn sitting next to me I have decided that I don't have enough yardage to finish a second sock- I am okay with it all since I did get a good lesson in cabeling- my first attempt. I will have to go out and buy the specified yarn in the pattern... I am using the sock pattern from the Debbie Bliss Home book.
I could hardly wait for class to be over on Friday- we changed our flight to an earlier time and I was home by 6pm. I barely got in the door before I headed to the hospital where I got to meet my new niece. I am over the top in love with her. She is beautiful- I don't think I will be posting any pictures as it is up to the parents to do so... but maybe I will sneak in a few hand or foot pictures just because I can't resist.

I made a few meals yesterday to bring over to the new parents so that they wouldn't have to cook- always nice- and got to visit with them again at home this time instead of at the hospital. Baby and mom are doing well and dad cracked me up while I watched him wrestle with the portable crib assembly. Sassy the dog is just not sure about it all but has decided to take up a place nice and close to the new girl in the house.
Plain and simple, babies really are amazing.

Thursday love goes out to my man today. I have been out of town for work training all week and I miss him like crazy. I won't get to see him until Sunday- oye

Other things to love: I am an Auntie as of last night around 5:30pm. I can hardly wait to meet my new niece! So lots of love to family today...

ps I have been knitting like crazy and am ready to turn the heal on a new pair of socks- pictures to come.

Sewing, sewing, sewing. I have found a new love.
I am making a toys and onsies like crazy and I guess that is my excuse for not blogging quite as often. That, or I am just on the computer to much at work and when I am home I would rather be using my hands to create goodies than type.
I have been keeping up on reading blogs however, check out my sidebar for regular reads- there are some good ones out there worth the click for sure.

Here are some of the results of time spent in the sewing room....

Farm animal onsies. Inspired by an old Martha Stewart Baby (I looked for a link, but it appears that magazine is too old and there is none, sorry kids).

Little Monkey Clutch purse. Isn't it fun? I found a few pattern ideas and went for it... I would like to find an alternative to the velcro closure as it is difficult to get it to attach and feel secure that it won't come off- I sewed this on there pretty well though and tested it with the contents of my clutch. I am working on a larger sized one that has strawberry print on the inside and green/white checkered oil cloth on the out. It is really fun- that I will need to find snaps or something to hold shut. Any good ideas out there?

I am also "participating" in the Make-a-Long Story over at Wee Wonderfuls. Olive is almost complete. I just have to add her bottom and her feet. Then it is on to cutting out the fabric for Archie. Great patterns and I am learning a lot about how to properly put together a doll on the sewing machine.

Today was a tough day and I am a bit of an emotional wreck- Trying to sort out everything that happened at the doctor's office in my head. I took off the afternoon from work and am starting to feel better. I turned over the angel card "Faith" today- I needed that... We all need faith in our lives.
